Each book features 4 chapters that focus separately on the “big ideas” of early algebra. These big ideas are:
- Equivalence and Equations
- Patterns and Functions
Each grade level specific book supports thinking, reasoning, and working mathematically in developmentally appropriate lessons. This sequence extends across the series so that students have the opportunity to develop their understanding of algebra over a number of years.
Described over two pages, the sequenced algebra activities feature clear step-by-step instructions for teaching and for reflection.
The left-hand pages describe the lessons, provide teachers with specific questions that they can ask students, and gives examples of student responses.
The right hand pages supply educators with a reproducible blackline master to accompany the lesson.
